Favourite features for Sydney houses and apartments
Here are some tips, brought to you by the expert property consultants at Finders Keepers – the leading real estate buyers agent in Sydney. Whether buying a home or an investment, here are the things that buyers (and tenants) are looking for.
Preferably secure and undercover. Bonus points for lock-up garages.
From a balcony to a courtyard, to grounds with pool and tennis court, everybody’s focussed on the great outdoors. Is it sunny? Is it private? Is it big enough for a BBQ and a group of friends? Does it flow from the indoor living area?
Most buyers will sacrifice a view for better living spaces but they all want to have a good outlook, particularly from the living areas. No ugly wires; no ugly buildings or other structures; no neighbours staring in. Exception: fashionable, ‘lifestyle’ apartments like Republic in East Sydney, where living in the ‘goldfish bowl’ can be part of the appeal!
Absolutely nobody ever asks us to find dark and cosy. In Sydney especially, we all want to let the light in. Living rooms and kitchens (as well as studies, of course) are where it’s most important.

Study or work area
The increasing use of home computers and working at home is reflected in the demand for a good work or study area. Apartment developers are meeting this demand now.
Walk to shops and transport
Generally that means no more than a 10-minute walk. Train is the most popular in most areas, especially upper north shore and inner west. On the lower north shore, ferries are a huge attraction.
Away from main roads
Most everybody wants to be close to the action, not on top of it. Main road addresses generally put buyers and tenants off.
